PIERRE'S TESTIMONIAL
"I always wanted to work abroad. Nestlé offered me immediate expatriation and the opportunity to change jobs virtually every three years or so, with the advantage of remaining in the same company.
This enables you to build a strong foundation, meet people and improve professionally in many areas while pursuing an extremely varied career.
I started working at the International Headquarters, then moved on to my first experience in a Nestlé factory at the Broc chocolate factory. Shortly thereafter, I was sent to participate in an Instant Cappuccino project in France. I also visited a powder milk factory in the Netherlands for two weeks before returning to Switzerland.
My next assignment was to join a small team of five to six engineers for seven months in China to work on a project in the Shuangcheng powder milk Factory. Coming from the salt business I had a lot to learn, especially in the areas of quality and hygiene standards. I didn’t speak a word of Chinese. However, my wife and I were very lucky to be greeted by a supportive community of expatriates on site. We lived next to the factory and every Friday night we all got together for dinner. There were two Malaysians, a couple from Sri Lanka, a Swiss-Argentinean and Canadian couple, as well as Brazilian, Pakistani, and Dutch expatriates. During our stay my wife taught English at a local Chinese school. Now, in just a few days, we will be heading to Thailand just North of Bangkok for two to three years where I will be Filling & Packing Maintenance Manager at the Navanakorn condensed milk factory. It will be exciting but challenging to work in Thailand with people who speak a completely different language.
One thing I appreciate at Nestlé is the corporate culture. It is like a common thread that stretches around the globe. It brings people together to apply similar methods, ideas and concepts to their work.
You recognise the Nestlé corporate culture in all the factories – one can observe similarities between factories in China and factories in Germany.
Nestlé’s investment in its expatriates is invaluable – it creates a sort of constantly rotating network of employees who exchange methods and skills between different Nestlé Markets, countries and the Headquarters."
