"I was first interested in working for Nestlé Group Audit because I knew it would let me see the world. While I had already had the opportunity as a student to travel abroad, most of the countries I had visited were westernized with similar standards to living to my home country, the United States. I knew that the audit function at Nestlé would let me see those places that were more off the beaten path and a little more daring.
I received not only that, but also immense exposure to how a multinational corporation works. I realized quickly that Nestlé is a company endowed with immense expertise on how to produce, market, and sell its products to consumers throughout the world. To learn how that process works is valuable to anyone interested in pursuing a career in any field of business - be it finance, marketing, sales or supply chain. In addition, the job gave me the opportunity to see how Nestlé’s model built on initiative and continuous improvement can work in the most challenging business environments - from countries gripped in civil war in Sub-Saharan Africa and the ever-changing human resources market in China, to the mature economies of Western Europe and North America where business growth stems from an innovative R&D pipeline.
As an auditor with Nestlé Group Audit, you’re challenged each and every day to push your mental limits to find solutions to business issues, with the ultimate goal of adding value to the organization. From a personal standpoint, this meant overcoming my fear of voicing my opinion and putting my personal life back home on the back burner for a few years. It also meant having to face tough workload and some very trying moments during audit engagements. But the ultimate payback - the ability to see the world and learn the inner workings of a multinational company - cannot be passed up. It has proven an invaluable training ground for me as I would like to pursue a career in finance and control.
I can best describe Nestlé Group Audit using a personal experience of mine while on mission in the Côte d’Ivoire. Our objective was to review our procurement of green coffee from local farmers. Learning about the whole process - from the farmer’s field to the finished product - highly challenged my analytical abilities. But I also learned how multinational corporations can reward even the smallest of entrepreneurs in developing countries and help them break the cycle of poverty."
